Navigating Pregnancy as a Wedding Planner…

So for those who dont know…my husband and I are expecting a little girl this coming May! Which means I have navigated pregnancy during the majority of my wedding season. I actually experienced a previous loss back in June and then unexpectedly found myself pregnant again in August. Which means for literally almost the entire 2025 wedding season, I have navigated those pesky first trimester symptoms.

I have dealt with extreme fatigue, nausea, brain fog, headaches, and just the overall feeling of being “blah” for months and months. I would find myself hibernating in bed or on the couch all week working from my computer, conserving all my energy for a wedding day. Then I would spend 12 hours on a wedding day, sometimes clocking in over 15 miles of walking and being on my feet, and would for the most part, genuinely feel pretty great!

There were only a few times on wedding days where I would really struggle but my couples and vendors were SO understanding and patient with me and would practically shove snacks down my throat to keep my energy up and my nausea at bay. Then I would bring an arsenal of concoctions with me to wedding days. Morning sickness bands, pregnancy pops, ginger chews, PLENTY of snacks, and a pillow in the rare chance I had the time to lay down in the back of my truck for an hour or so for a quick rest.

Now that I have survived past my first trimester (I am now 18 weeks!), I am SO proud of myself and truly impressed that I was able to handle one of my craziest wedding seasons to date, all while being pregnant. I am also praising this sweet babe for being on her best behavior and letting me get through these wedding days without barfing once.

That being said, my next year will look VERY different as I’ll be juggling a newborn and learning how to be a first-time momma! I have reached out to other local wedding planners who are also navigating their first year of motherhood and they have given me so much incredible advice on how to be both business owner, wedding planner, and Momma.

Since I’ll be due in early May, I haven’t booked any weddings until later in August. I had my good friend and fellow local wedding planner, Nancy Ess Events, take over the weddings I booked before I knew I was pregnant. We all met with my couples so I can pass the torch seamlessly over to her, which took a ton of trust! I am very protective of my nearly-weds and would never pass these weddings along to someone who I wouldn’t trust wholeheartedly. I know they are in the most wonderful hands with Nancy!

I have also limited myself to coordinating only seven weddings next year which is a HUGE difference compared to the twenty-one weddings I booked for the 2025 season. But I want to make sure that I am able to confidently show up for not only my little girl who will need her momma greatly in her first year of life, but to also ensure that I am able to give the couples I am working with the care and attention they deserve. I still want to be able to give them my 100% so I wanted to be very intentional on not spreading myself too thin. I am very confident in this plan for next year and have been hoarding my nuts like a squirrel in the meantime since my paychecks will be MUCH smaller next year.

And I seriously need to give a shout-out to all of my newlyweds this year for being so incredibly supportive towards me in my pregnancy journey! It literally makes me choked up to think about how amazing they all have been. Saryn and Geoffrey especially, their wedding day sticks out to me SO much due to their love and encouragement I received while working with them.

Not to mention her own passion for babies! Not only did they have a large bridal party, but they had at least four flowergirls and four ringbearers that I had to send down the aisle. It was by far the most kids I have ever seen at a wedding and it was an absolute zoo but I truly loved every second of it! Not to mention Saryn blurting out during the ceremony that she plans to make plentyyy of babies with Geoffrey which had us all cracking up!

Bringing kids to a wedding can add such a fun energy to the day, especially the dancefloor! I usually try and get them involved in some way whether that’s helping me pass out the party props for the dancefloor or the sparklers for the send-off. They love feeling involved and like they are contributing to such a big day to some of the ones they look up to most in their life. This was such a fun wedding, and I miss working with these two love birds already! Now I’m just waiting for their pregnancy announcement! ;)
