Thank you for supporting locals…
First off, I can’t say enough good things about Alexandra, Gavin, and the Mother of the Bride, DeAnn. We have been collaborating together on planning this wedding since last June and when Hurricane Helene hit our community, they showed up in such a big way.
They immediately checked on me when the storm hit and even donated money since I was hosting several displaced friends who had either lost their home in the storm or had now access to power, water, or internet. DeAnn then drove all the way to Boone with a completely loaded car full of supplies, I brought it to Lansing and distributed it to those who were in need the next day.
It didn’t stop there, they decided to pursue all the local businesses who were effected by Helene and found a way to include them in their wedding. Our welcome bags were filled with local goodies. We had blueberry jam and muffin mix provided by the Old Orchard Creek General Store in Lansing. Homemade soaps from Lux & Lye, as well as collaborated with our local print shop (GoPostal!) for our custom made koozies and personalized matchboxes.
There were so many little details that represented Alexandra and Gavin’s relationship so well. One of my favorite aspects about the wedding service was the sand pouring ceremony, where they brought sand from the beaches of where they grew up and poured it into a vase.
I couldn’t get over the incredible florals that Fuschia Moss had provided. The greenery strung up the wooden columns, the fireplace mantel arrangement, the dramatic centerpieces, it was all so incredibly beautiful and it came together seamlessly. DeAnn and Alexandra truly had an eye for design and it was so much fun working alongside them to see it all come together from start to finish.
I also loved how Alexandra and Gavin prioritized having a private moment before the reception kicked off. It’s always a bit of a whirlwind for our newlyweds as soon as the ceremony concludes and I loved that they really wanted to experience a private dinner with just them two before the madness of the reception began.
The Frugal Gourmet provided an incredible meal with different food stations spaced throughout the venue. We had a mac & cheese bar, a BBQ slider station, and a taco bar with all the fixins. Not to mention the banana pudding and key lime pie shooters, it was all SO delicious.
Once dinner was over, DJ Karl Mohr really got the party started with all the best tunes. He also provided a guest audiobook experience which was such a hit! It’s where guests can leave a voice message for the couple on the phone Mohr Fun Entertainment provided. Once the newlyweds get back from their honeymoon, they get to listen to all the sweet messages of love, marriage advice, funny jokes, and words of encouragement left by their wedding guests. They will have these voice memos for years to come.
Unfortunately our mountains have a mind of their own, especially this time of year, and the fog rolled in thick. But it didn’t dampen the day whatsoever, the kids played outside in the clouds and people danced the night away until the fog cleared up.
It was such an incredible celebration and I loved working with this sweet family so much. It’s always such a bittersweet moment at the conclusion of a wedding. I enjoy working with all of my couples SO much, and as happy as I am at the end of a successful wedding day, there is always a part of me that mourns it’s over since it usually means I won’t get the chance to work alongside these incredible couples again. It’s truly an honor to be able to play a part in such a special moment of their lives.
