Rain on a Wedding Day…

Let’s be honest, whenever anyone says “rain on your wedding day is supposed to be good luck!” is just a way to try and make the bride feel better about the weather forecast. It truly sucks when the weather doesn’t cooperate with your vision of a beautiful wedding day full of sunshine and rainbows.

But let’s be honest, you can’t fight nature, you have to work with it. And that’s why I wait until the VERY last minute to make that call, no matter what the weather forecast or radar is showing. We even had a Meteorologist attending Tess and Jacob’s wedding and he informed us that the rain is coming right when the ceremony is supposed to start. Not a good sign if he’s telling you we should probably play it safe and move the ceremony inside.

But I know how badly Tess and Jacob wanted their outdoor ceremony so I did everything in my power to make it happen. It was slightly drizzling by the time we had guests arriving and at that point, I was constantly looking at the sky. There were pockets of sunshine and pockets of rain surrounding us.

At the last second, Tess, Jacob, and I had a team huddle and decided to delay the ceremony a couple minutes to let the rain pass since it looks like we were about to get hit with a pocket of sunshine. As soon as the rain let up and the sun came out, we grabbed towels, wiped down all the ceremony chairs, and I directed all the guests back outside and prayed to the Lord Almighty that it was the right call to make.

Well, just a couple minutes into the ceremony, the rain came in once again but luckily, it was just a drizzle! Enough for me to be happy that we made the right call because as soon as the ceremony ended, the sun came out, and we were able to move cocktail hour back outside so people can soak up the sun and dry off their slightly damp wedding attire!

I know Tess and Jacob were stressing about making their wedding guests sit out in the rain, but I told them that people are here for them and they are willing to do anything just to see this union between the two of them. They already made their way up a mountain to see them get married, then they can sit in a drizzle for a couple of minutes. I also promised them that the pictures would be SO worth being outside for a couple of damp minutes! Turns out, we were right.

Micaela Ramsey Photography captured the most BEAUTIFUL images of the day, and I was so happy she was able to catch a couple of the rain drops in the photos. It’s definitely one of the hardest parts of my job, working with mother nature and hoping for the best. In this case, I was relieved to see it all come together so seamlessly.

It’s always so rewarding for me to see my couples enjoying the best day of their lives, and to be able to give them the gift of being truly present with their loved ones and not have to worry about anything taking place behind the scenes makes me feel like I’ve done my job well. I genuinely care SO much about this aspect of the day, not just for my couples but for their family members as well. They get to experience this one time in their life, and I want them to be able to soak in every minute of it.

They had an incredible group of support who showed up for them on their wedding day. Friends, family, and a bunch of East Carolina University Alumni which made for a very fun time on the dancefloor. Mountain Peak Sounds did an amazing job getting everyone hyped up for a long night of dancing and then ended the evening with a sparkler send-off.

Overall, this wedding couldn’t have gone any better. And the rain only added to the memories of the overall magic of their big day! I absolutely loved collaborating with Tess, Jacob, and their wonderful families and friends. It was such a solid group of folks, and they are lucky to have them in their inner circle. I can tell they are going to live a life full of so much love, laughter, and happiness. Congratulations you two love birds!
